What is Manna?
It’s
like a small business. About 10 dedicated parishioners operate it. After the
9 and 11 a.m. Sunday Masses and from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Thursdays and
Fridays, the teams sell gift cards for local and out-of-town restaurants and
retailers at the main doors of St. Joseph School. You've probably seen them
sitting there at the Manna table.
Each
of the participating businesses offers gift cards at a discount. The Manna
group then sells the cards at face value. Half of the discounted percentage
goes to a parish ministry designated by the buyer and the remainder goes to
a general parish fund.
Those who take time to purchase the gift cards, especially the regulars, are
giving back to their parish community. It doesn’t cost a thing. It’s an easy
way to help. Many just pick up cards as they need them … like for going out
for dinner over the weekend. Others think long term and integrate the
program into their regular budgets. They purchase cards for gas for cars,
groceries and other necessities.
Some
people do all their grocery shopping with Manna gift cards. In fact, Kroger
allows customers to add money back onto cards at the store and the
discounted percentages automatically go back to the parish.
We thank all of
those involved as well as those who take advantage of this special service.
Please stop by, visit with the volunteers and grab some gift cards. They
make great presents too!! |
